G Spot
“A firefly
illuminating the lantern
of his body is like us,
each time we laugh.”
- From Rabbit, by Heather Swan
G spot.
I mean the Giggle spot.
There is nothing better than laughter.
Yeah, better even than, okay, equally as satisfying as,
That other G spot.
What’s funner than that simultaneous guffaw
That explodes when two people find the giggle
In the middle of a conversation?
A moment of recognition and delight.
Both light up
Like the firefly illuminating the lantern of his body.
Laughter is the best medicine,
The most beautiful music.
When it hits you, and you start and can’t stop;
When the tears start falling
And you are breathless, gasping,
That’s when the magic works.
You feel lighter and brighter and freer.
Or I do. It never gets old.
It doesn’t happen all that often.
You have to find the right soul,
The ripe mind,
That pinpoint in time.
Oh, timing is everything.
Of course, It’s not always a good time to get that tickle.
I remember it hitting in the midst of a funeral.
I mean during the quiet, shush, solemn time.
Lord, that was tough.
Two of us nearly expiring
Like the corpse up front
As we were trying so desperately to stifle
The trifle that had set us off.
I hoped the folks behind us were thinking
That the shoulder shaking they observed
Was each of us weeping uncontrollably,
The grief releasing itself.
I wouldn’t bet on it.
I am not speaking so much of joke telling,
Although a good one can gaggle a giggle.
I am talking of that spontaneous spark;
Unexpected, tripped over,
Flying up and hitting you
Smack in the funny bone.
Want to know why the chicken
Crossed the road?
She saw two people there
Sitting on a bench,
Laughing uncontrollably.
And she just had to join the fun.
