Fall Gets a Bad Rap
Days growing shorter
SAD sneaking in
Summer’s surf and sun and glee in the rear-view mirror
Yellow school buses revving up
Hurricanes sneaking in
Leaves whisked awry in the wind
Trees soon to be bare
Those winter skeletons
Standing guard
On the other hand…
Cooler days; windows flung open letting in fresh air
Nippy nights; snuggling in bed with the quilt and the dog
The trees painted with reds, yellows, oranges making each scene a picture postcard
Pumpkins and asters and marigolds and Montauk daisies singing in the garden
The occasional ghost hanging from the neighbor’s tree announcing Halloween
Rearranging the closet; digging out the sweaters that have hibernated over the summer months
The beach emptied of crowds inviting meditative walks along the surf’s edge
Scarves and down vests keeping the chill at bay
Baking gingerbread cookies and apple crisp
Simmering split pea soup, hearty stews, chili
Yum
